56 percent of IT professionals consider their own IT department to be the main stumbling block in their company’s digital transformation efforts. This is the finding of research by DocuSign and it reveals other departments also point the finger at IT for their company’s shortcomings.
35 percent of European business decision makers also consider IT responsible for holding back digital progress. This is more than any other department. In contrast, less than a quarter (23%) blamed HR and just 14% took aim at C-level execs.
We simply can’t quit moaning
Another recent study found the average office worker spends two weeks of the year complaining about slow computers and IT issues. Lengthy ticket processing and outdated legacy systems combine to make a frustrating experience, hampering those trying to innovate. It’s perhaps no wonder that DocuSign has found 50 percent of digital projects are being undertaken without consulting IT departments first.
Those attempting to pioneer paperless processes and streamline their departments are no longer being placated with “turn it off and back on again” advice from apathetic IT teams. There is a significant risk that organisations that are slow to go digital will lose their brightest talent and fail to attract the best future employees away from their competitors.
The first step in creating change
The fact that IT professionals themselves acknowledge their teams are holding back digital transformation is a sign that important changes may now be made to satisfy the appetite for digitisation amongst not just consumers but fellow employees, too.
Other insights into IT decision makers’ digital expectations include:
- Almost three-quarters (73 percent) of IT professionals consider security to be the most important criterion for choosing an e-signature provider
- More than two-thirds (68 percent) of business leaders claim to have worked on digital projects without involving their IT team
- About half (52 percent) of people in IT are signing paper documents on a daily basis
